SCHOOL THREAT: Monetzuma Student Suspended
A Montezuma high school junior is suspended for the rest of the year after threatening to bring a gun to school.
“He just said that he would possibly bring a gun to school on the last day and with that kind of threat we don’t take those things lightly,” explained Montezuma High School principal Brian Moretz. “We take it very seriously here at Montezuma High School and we were very proactive in what we are going to do to protect the rest of the kids.”
That includes calling in a deputy to investigate the incident, calling the teen’s mother and double checking doors to the school to make sure they are locked.
The student, who we are not identifying because of his age, could be arrested on trespassing charges if he is found on school grounds.
“I want parents to know that we’re going to do everything we can do to keep their kids safe and I believe we’ve taken that proactive approach and we’re going to continue to do that,” Moretz added.
The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office is also planning to increase security around the school, but wouldn’t go into details.
The 17-year-old student was not criminally charged.
