Mayor Faces Criminal Charges, Wrath of City Council
The mayor of Humboldt is facing criminal charges. Now, he’s also facing the wrath of his own city council.
Humboldt Mayor Walter Jensen admits he messed up. Back in April, he says he lost his temper while trying to get his Corvette back from his ex-girlfriends house in West Des Moines. So, he says, he keyed her new boyfriend’s pick up truck. He was charged with criminal mischief. Now, city council has written a letter condemning the action, and some are calling for his resignation.
“I think they’re just getting a lot of heat from people at the bar and people at the restaurants and stuff so they just had to make a statement so it made them feel better and made everyone in town feel at ease that they actually knew that they were keeping an eye on me,” Mayor Jensen said. “Making sure I didn’t get out of hand or something anyway.”
Mayor Jensen says he has no plans to resign. He says he has already paid for the damage he did to the pick up and expects the criminal charges to be dropped
