Dashcam of Man Ramming Police During Pursuit Released
Des Moines police have released dashcam footage of the pursuit that ended in an attempted murder charge.
Larry Gowin is a registered sex offender who authorities spotted near a child care center on Douglas Avenue.
Gowin crashed head-on with a Polk County deputy squad car.
Deputies knew Gowin had several outstanding warrants and say they had to use different techniques than they would with just a regular traffic stop.
“When we know someone has a criminal history like his, we feel it more imperative to get that person stopped. And we might go to further measures during a pursuit,” Lt. Jana Abens with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.
In addition to attempted murder, Gowin is also charged with felony eluding.
His outstanding warrants were for a work release violation, escape and failure to comply with the sex offender registry.
