Ames Secondhand Store Helps Children In Need
A new thrift store in Ames has a unique twist. Not only does the store sell second hand items, it also supports orphan children overseas.
“We have so much excess here and that is really where this started, how we can use this excess here to sell it and then give overseas over there,” says Tami Hicks.
Hicks and the two others came up with the idea to start the non – profit organization in March and opened the store Friday.
Hick’s says the store plans to donate half of the stores earnings every month to charities in Haiti, Zimbabwe and Uganda. The proceeds from the store will help pay for schooling and food children in those areas.
The store does need volunteers. If you’re interested in volunteering head to their Facebook page by searching – “overflow thrift store Ames”
